Keep your skills up to date and give girls the best possible experience of guiding

Refresh your skills as often as you can to make sure that you and the girls in your unit get the most out of meetings.

You can choose from face-to-face training as well as opportunities to learn online. There are short and long courses offered at different times to help us all fit something in - even around the busiest schedules. From gaining a qualification to brushing up on the basics, any chance you take to develop your skills directly benefits girls.

Find a training opportunity

• Attend a training session in your county and bring along other leaders, young leaders and unit helpers.
• Try a new learning opportunity - from e-learning to a qualification.

Hold a Guiding Conversation

• If you're a commissioner, our Guiding Conversations guidance helps you to facilitate discussions about guiding-related topics at district or division meetings.

Share with other leaders

• Make new friends and contacts from leaders in your areas. Swap stories and ideas to pick up suggestions for games and activities that worked for them.

Look outside guiding

• Make the most of skills you have learned outside guiding in the unit. Parents can offer something different too. You can find out what they're able to do from the information on their returned Starting… forms.
• Look outside of Girlguiding's training opportunities and go along to a training session on first aid, food hygiene, music, social media or anything else you fancy.

Develop skills among young members

Remember to look for ways to develop your Sixers and Patrol Leaders too. You could hold an 'air and share' session at your local meeting to hear what everyone thinks.
