About the Senior Section

three senior section membersThe Senior Section is the section of Girlguiding UK for young women aged 14 to 26. You can become a member of the section any time on or after your 14th birthday, and your membership ends on your 26th birthday. 
 
Unlike other sections of Girlguiding UK, there are lots of ways that you can be a member of this section. You could become a:

You might just fit one of these categories, or you might fit many! Either way, you’re still a member of the Senior Section and you can take advantage of the countless opportunities that this brings, from representing Girlguiding UK at conferences, exhibitions and camps to starting your Queen’s Guide Award. How many other groups give you that much choice?

Ranger

A Ranger is a Senior Section member who belongs to a Ranger unit. The unit is made up of girls aged between 14 and 26 who meet together to plan and carry out activities from any or all of the schemes open to the Senior Section, such as Look Wider and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Young Leader

A Young Leader is a Senior Section member aged 14 to 18 who is working with a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide unit. She may be working towards her Young Leader Qualification or the Adult Leadership scheme, or participating in other Senior Section opportunities as she so chooses. She is supported by a Young Leader Leader and links with other members of the Senior Section as and when she chooses.

Young Leader

A Young Leader is a Senior Section member aged 18 to 26 who has completed the Adult Leadership qualification and is working as a Leader with a Rainbow, Brownie, Guide or Senior Section unit. She is supported by her District Commissioner and can participate in Senior Section opportunites when she chooses.

Member of a Look Wider group

A member of a Look Wider group is a Senior Section member who has chosen to focus on the Look Wider scheme and participate through a specialist group.

Some Senior Section units choose to focus specifically on achieving the different levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Any Senior Section member can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through Girlguiding UK – you don’t have to belong to a specialist unit!

Lone Senior Section member

This is a Senior Section member who is working on part of the Senior Section programme, but is not part of a Senior Section unit or Look Wider group. She is supported by her District team and can participate in Senior Section opportunities as she wishes.

Anyone who has undergone the Basic or Refresher 4ward, 4 self, 4 others training and uses peer education skills.

Guide member of SSAGO

The Student Scout and Guide Organisation is for people who are studying full or part time at university or college. Take a look at the SSAGO. This will open in a new window. SSAGO web site for more details. ) There are groups at many universities in the UK, or you can be a lone member if there is no group at your place of higher education. The group organises activities and members may continue working on various Girlguiding UK and Scout membership schemes as they so choose. Members can also participate in the various Senior Section opportunities as they choose – providing they are under 26.

Female member of LINK (providing you are under 26)

LINK is a way for young women to maintain contact with Girlguiding UK. Take a look at the Leaders in Guiding site for details. The group focuses on providing support and activities for local Girlguiding UK units, without the formal weekly commitment. Members can also participate in the various Senior Section opportunities as they choose – providing they are under 26.

Role holder

A Commissioner or Adviser under the age of 26 is a member of the Senior Section, and can choose to participate in any of the Senior Section opportunities available.

Member of the Trefoil Guild

A member of the Trefoil Guild under the age of 26 is a member of the Senior Section and can choose to participate in any of the Senior Section opportunities available.
