Learn the Alphabeat
When their debut single 'Fascination' crept into the charts, we all loved their quirky feel-good vibe. Everyone was singing the Wa-O's.
And now Alphabeat have agreed to perform their sunshine-fuelled pop at the BIG GIG 2008. I know I can't wait... can you?
Who are Alphabeat?
The Alphabeat gang hail from a small town just outside of Copenhagen in Denmark. They've already conquered the charts over there, taking home lots of awards and establishing themselves as a must-see live act.
Three of them are called Anders. Anders SG is the male singer, Anders B is the guitarist, Anders Reinholdt plays bass. The other three are (luckily!) not called Anders. Stine Bramsen takes on female vocals, Rasmus Nagel plays keyboard and Troels Hansen plays drums.
Their music is 100 per cent feelgood pop, the kind that always gets you moving your feet. 'Its all pop,' says Anders B, the bands chief songwriter. 'Were into melody. Were influenced by things, of course, but youd never guess what just by listening to our music.'
The band formed five years ago when most of the members had just finished school (although Anders SG had already been expelled for mooning at a bus full of teachers). 'We were at the same school and we were bored,' Anders B recalls, 'but wed had a great music class together and we decided to start a band.'
After relocating to Copenhagen, Anders wrote a song called 'Fascination', in his bedroom, and realised hed struck gold. The band signed to Copenhagen Records and finished their debut album in February 2006.
Their debut single in the UK, 'Fascination' is a highly infectious, fancy-free melody that is sure to be remembered as the breakthrough single of 2008. '10,000 Nights', their latest track has been described as 'splendidly lust-struck'. It's dedication to 'the wuthering heights and the stormy nights' continues Alphabeats obsession with pop history, which makes for instantly recognisable songs on an album curiously unlike anything youve heard before. Watch out! Alphabeat are throwing the fun back into music.
Alphabeat's debut album is out on 2 June, you can pre-order your copy now. To celebrate Alphabeat performing at the BIG GIG 2008, when you order their latest single '10,000 nights' before its release on 25 May you will receive a very special Alphabeat poster. Reserve your copy now!
