There are two Residential permits for members of the Senior Section:
The Overnight Permit enables any Senior Section member to take up to eight others, from the Senior Section or Guide Section, away overnight. The event may vary in length but should be no longer than 24 hours. For example, the event could take place after a unit meeting and finish at breakfast time, where no catering is necessary.
The Senior Section Permit enables any Senior Section member to take up to eight others, from the Senior Section or Guide Section, on a camp or holiday of two nights or more.
All candidates must have a relationship with those eight members: they should be peers in the Senior Section, or Guide Section members with whom she works closely. For example, a Young Leader/Leader may take away up to eight Guides with whom she works. This must be with the approval of the Senior Section Leader, Look Wider Team, and Guide Leader, where appropriate.
In addition, as from January 2004, Senior Section Permit holders may also take an extension module to their permit (Module 10) allowing these camps or holidays to take place abroad for Senior Section members only. This module allows a Senior Section Permit holder to take a minimum of four, and a maximum of eight, Senior Section members, including herself, abroad.
Before starting this module you must already hold the relevant Senior Section Permit and have organised and led at least one other camp or holiday, as appropriate, following the award of your permit.
General Points to Note
- Parental consent is required for all those going away who are under 18 years of age.
- Both permits may be used for a base camp/holiday or a mobile expedition camp/holiday in lowland or open country.
- When working towards any permit, check The Guiding Manual (latest edition) before making any plans.
- Not all residential experiences require you to have a permit. Check the residentials section of The Guiding Manual to find out more.

Frequently Asked Questions about Senior Section Permits
 |
What happens when you complete the Senior Section permit? |
 |
The most important thing is that you get the modules which are found in the Look Wider Personal Organiser signed. This enables you to take up to eight Guides or Senior Section members away, providing you complete the forms and planning as outlined in The Guiding Manual. In addition, you can also receive a certificate which is available through your County Badge Secretary and will normally be organised by your Assessor or Leader and presented at an appropriate event.

 |
Is there a Senior Section Permit badge? |
 |
Yes, a new badge has been introduced. This is available to everyone who has completed the permit since the launch of the Senior Section CD in September 2007.
|
 |
Who is an appropriate Assessor for the Senior Section Permits ? |
 |
Everyone is assessed against the same standard to make sure the process is fair. Your Assessor will hold a Camp or Holiday Licence. Your Assessor can't be your own Leader, though, or anyone else who you regularly do your guiding with but will hopefully be someone who also understands the Senior Section. The responsibilities for the Assessor are shown on page 78 of the Look Wider Personal Organiser and your Senior Section Leader/Adviser and Outdoor Activities Adviser will be able to help you identify an appropriate person to be an Assessor.
