Promise

Got a question about the Senior Section Promise? Some of the most frequently asked questions are answered here.

Question What is the Senior Section Promise?
Answer The Senior Section Promise is:

I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and
To keep the Guide Law.

Members of the Senior Section have a further responsibility – to be of service to the community.

Question If I am already a Young Leader do I have to remake my promise if I became a Ranger?
Answer Once you make your Promise as a member of the Senior Section, you do not have to remake it if you join an additional element of the section. However, there are many opportunities throughout your guiding life to renew your Promise, and joining a new unit is one of those. It is a personal choice whether you choose to renew your Promise at this point.

Question When do I have to make or renew my Promise?
Answer

As a member of Girlguiding UK there is no set time when you have to make or renew your promise – it is your commitment and therefore it is when it feels right and appropriate to you. You can be an active member of the Senior Section prior to making your Promise and can take part in all the activities and programme elements. However, you will need to make or renew your Promise before completing certain things. These are:

  • The Chief Guide’s Challenge
  • Module 2 of the Leadership Qualification
  • The Queen’s Guide Award.
