Innovate York

A group of young women sitting in a circleOver 140 Senior Section girls headed to the historic city of York to participate at Innovate - Girlguiding UK's forum for young women - which took place from 30 March to 1 April 2007.

Innovate is a chance to have your say about what you love and hate in guiding today - and best of all, your views are actually listened to!

Ask any participant to sum up their experience in three words, and generally they'll answer, 'Flipcharts, post-its and fun'.  The flipcharts and post-it notes feature in the Association workshops, led by a member of the Planning Team who are all Senior Section members.  Everyone's ideas are written down, no matter how strange they might seem - Guide resources written on wallpaper was suggested in one workshop!  Discussions included the centenary, changing perceptions, sex education, Leader training and students in guiding.

There's plenty for you too! On Saturday afternoon, the Fringe promoted Senior Section opportunities, from training as In4mers to international GOLD trips. There was a chance to meet the Chief Guide, Liz Burnley, and we also got to see the new Senior Section hoodie - be assured that the sleeve length was up to scratch!

Saturday nights at Innovate are legendary this year you could learn African dancing and support charity, African Connexions, by eating from a chocolate fountain or having your nails painted. The brave could talk to our own Big Brother and watch it again, collapsing with laughter, when broadcast to everyone on Sunday afternoon!

Innovate is an amazing opportunity to help guiding move forward in the direction you want it to take. It's a chance to enjoy being Senior Section, without any pressure to be sensible!
