The professions

The Girlguiding UK Girls shout out! report found that teaching was the most popular profession for all age groups.

Cherie Booth
‘Guiding gave me the opportunity to have fun, make friends and do things I would never have done otherwise. My fondest memories are of singing Guide songs with other Guides on trips and somehow always being the one who fell into the stream and ended up going home in a motley collection of everyone else's clothes.’

Debbie Stone
‘As a Girl Guide I was encouraged to think on my feet - quickly! This skill is invaluable in my career as a specialist nurse. The Scouts thought that Girl Guide camp in the New Forest would be dull but we spent one night moving camp because of an escaped alligator (who was probably more afraid of us…). Great stuff!’
Debbie Stone
Nurse of the Year Award Winner

Debbie Stone, a specialist osteoporosis nurse from the rural Welsh county of Ceredigion, found that many sufferers of osteoporosis had to travel long distances for treatment and care. Despite a lack of funding, Debbie was instrumental in setting up a service that covers nearly 1,000 square miles of ‘Wild Wales’! She has raised awareness of osteoporosis, a condition that causes many people to break bones, and has won national recognition for her work - including a trip to the Queen's birthday.

Other award-winning women previously involved in Girlguiding UK include:
