Girlguiding UK wins People's Choice award
Congratulations to the Girlguiding UK Centenary Garden,
which won the People's Choice for large garden.
The award (a special Dartington crystal vase) was presented by
the RHS to the garden's designer, Philippa Pearson, Claire
Rees and Elizabeth Maytom from the Girlguiding UK team.
Girlguiding UK
members worked with designer Philippa Pearson to create the garden
that celebrates 100 years of guiding. The plants and design
highlight the elements that members say make Girlguiding UK a
unique and thriving organisation.
The garden explores modern guiding, and references the heritage
of the organisation from its start at the Crystal Palace rally in
1909. Traditional guiding activities are hinted at, including camps
and international adventures, whilst the emphasis is on the views
and opinions of today's girls and young women.
Phillipa Pearson said: 'It has been a real privilege to work
with Girlguiding UK, the garden and everyone in the organisation
deserve the Peoples Choice Award. This has been the most exciting
and fun show garden I’ve created, it’s been a real team effort.
Well done girls!'
