Training for Leaders

Girlguiding UK offers a range of trainings for Young Leaders and Leaders, which are delivered by local guiding. These include leadership skills, programme training, outdoor skills, international opportunities, interpersonal skills, management skills and safety. Your local Commissioner should be aware of when trainings are happening and is a good first contact point of contact. Counties and some Divisions also have Training Advisers.

Some Counties allow you to attend adult trainings from 16, so its worth finding out the rules in your area. Talk to your Unit Leader or Young Leader Leader and explain what trainings you would like to do and why. Then look at the different options open to you for example

  • attending a training session at a Training and Activities Centre
  • going to specific Young Leader Training Day (maybe in a different District, Division, County or Region)
  • organising a local training just for Young Leaders and Leaders in your local area (sometimes known as a fireside training)
  • one-to-one trainings
  • training provided by other organisations such as the Scouts, Red Cross, and so on.

There are a range of trainings held at the Training and Activity Centres that you can attend. These are advertised on the main Girlguiding UK website and in guiding magazine. Girlguiding UK has several training and Activity Centres (TACs) at Foxlease, Waddow, Blackland Farm, Hautbois, Lorne, Bronierion and Netherurd.
