Youth volunteering

Many elements of Senior Section awards and qualifications feature community action projects. Here are a few extra volunteering opportunities outside Girlguiding UK that might help you achieve that badge or award you're striving for.

  • V aims to get at least 1 million more 16- to 25-year-olds involved in volunteering and community action. This could include anything: getting involved with community radio, improving the environment or running sports clubs. See www.vinspired.com
  • Millennium Volunteers is a government initiative to help 16- to 24- year-olds get involved in helping their communities. It can even lead to a nationally-recognised, accredited award. Visit the CSV website.
  • Youth Action Network supports young people in developing and delivering local volunteering projects, as well as running their own national projects. Find out more at www.youthactionnetwork.org.uk.
  • For general volunteering advice and options specifically for young people, visit Volunteering England's site www.volunteering.org.uk.
  • YouthNet operates the national volunteering database www.do-it.org.uk to help you find the right volunteering option in your area.
