What can I get out of it?

  • Another string to your bow!

The Look Wider programme is a great motivational tool for doing things you've always thought about learn a language, volunteer, run a marathon, free camp in the wilds of Wales!

  • Cross-benefits in guiding

Other things you achieve as a Senior Section member can count towards Look Wider. For example, if you are an In4mer, the sessions that you run can count towards Community Action. If you're a Young Leader then by gaining your Young Leader Qualification you've achieved Phase 3 of the Leadership Octant.

  • Cross-benefits outside guiding

The work you put into your Phase 3 activities can be enough to achieve many external qualifications. For example:

    • British Canoe Union qualifications
    • Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts awards
    • Grand National Archery qualification
    • Amateur Swimming Association awards.
  • Glory!

Octant certificates are awarded for completing all the phases in an Octant.

The Chief Guide's Challenge is awarded when you've completed Phases 1 and 2 of all eight octants. You then get a certificate and metal badge that can be worn on your badge tab.
