As a Senior Section member, there are loads of ways you can further your skills.

For some of the schemes mentioned below there are age restrictions. In some cases you can start training for the schemes before you reach your qualifying birthday, but they cannot be awarded until you reach the right age.

Boating schemes

Navigate the water and keep yourself and others safe by studying the Rowing Scheme and Power-Cruising Scheme.

  • The Rowing Scheme is open to members aged 14+.
  • Power-cruising qualifications are open to members aged 18+.
  • The qualifications must be renewed every three years.

Camping and Holiday Scheme

Camp and holiday licences are required before you can take more than eight Brownies, Guides or Senior Section members away on different holidays.

  • Open to warranted Leaders, Commissioners, or Advisers aged over 18 who hold an appointment card.

Catering Scheme

Catering on camp, kitchen hygiene and menu planning are all covered in this scheme.

  • Open to members aged 18+.

Health and First Aid Scheme

Organise first aid arrangements, manage any health and safety needs, ensure you have up- to- date first aid knowledge, and make sure you know how to manage any environmental challenges like that big grey cloud hovering in the sky ahead.

  • Open to members aged 16+.
  • Prior experience required.
  • Register with your local First Aid or Camps or Holiday Adviser.

Climbing and Abseiling Scheme

The Climbing and Abseiling Scheme is and divided into two levels beginners and advanced. Each includes at least two days training and a one-day assessment

  • Open to members aged 16+.
  • Basic climbing ability required.
