Jargon busting

Just because you are a member of Girlguiding UK, words like Leader, Warrant, Look Wider and Queens Guide Award mean something to you but to someone who has no involvement in the Movement, its like speaking a different language! You need to make sure you put phrases in that make it easier for employers to understand what you are talking about.

I am a warranted Leader with the local Guide Unit

I have completed the Girlguiding UK Leadership Training Scheme and now lead a group of 10- to 14-year-old girls (Guides) as a volunteer. I assist with programme planning and organisation of activities, as well as taking the group away on residential events, including camping.

I have completed my Queens Guide Award

I have completed my Queens Guide Award, the highest award attainable for members of Girlguiding UK. It is similar to the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and includes aspects such as Community Action, Residential Challenge and Service in Guiding.

I am a Senior Section member

I am a member of the Anytown Senior Section unit, part of Girlguiding UK. Members are aged between 14 and 26 and work on a variety of self development programmes including community action.

I am a Young Leader with my local Brownie unit working on my Young Leader Qualification

I am a volunteer with Girlguiding UK working with a group of 7- to 10-year-old girls (Brownies). I am following a structured training programme that will lead to the award of the Young Leader Qualification.

I am an In4mer

I am a trained peer educator within Girlguiding UK, and have led several sessions with young people aged between 10 and 26 on topics including disability awareness and eating disorders.

I help run Guide camp every summer.

Through my membership of Girlguiding UK I have been part of a team of young women who organised and ran activity camps for young girls aged between 10 and 14 every summer.

I have been a Rainbow, a Brownie, a Guide and a Ranger.

I am an active member of Girlguiding UK. I have been part of several different teams working on structured programmes, enabling me to develop organisational and leadership skills as well as challenge myself to try new activities and meet new people from around the country.
