Fizzy Bath Bombs

Bath bombs are a great way to have a fun and relaxing bath.

Please note: This activity may not be suitable for those with skin allergies or conditions such as eczema or dermatitis.

You will need

  • 1 part citric acid
  • 2 parts baking soda
  • Witch hazel
  • Colouring of your choice (you only need a few drops)
  • Fragrance oil of your choice
  • Dome shaped mould

Blend the citric acid and the baking soda - this step is important - if you don't blend well, you end up with a grainy bath bomb.

Once you have blended the citric acid and baking soda, add your colouring. Dry pigments or a speciality bath colouring works best - don't add too much though - the colour shows up once you add the witch hazel.

Add the fragrance oils of your choice. Try lavender or camomile for a relaxing bath, or Grapefruit for a fruity experience.

Now, this is the difficult part. Spritz (with a squirt bottle) the witch hazel onto your batch while stirring with the other hand. When your batch sticks together when squished, you need to start putting it in moulds. If you wait too long, the mixture will get hard. If you spritz too much, the mixture will be too wet and grow (start the fizzing reaction) on you.

Put the bombs in moulds, wait a few minutes then tap them out. Let them dry for three to four hours and voila! Wonderful bath bombs. The harder you pack the bath bombs, the more dense, heavy, and durable bath bomb you will get.

Now all you need to do is sit back in the bath and relax, bliss!
