Pippa's blog

January 2009

The beginning of the month saw me standing in front of my local vicar having water poured over my head, I'd never been baptised you see, and figured I was finally ready to take that step. It was fun, and everyone there was really supportive, the sky didn't open up with a big sunbeam shining on me, but there was something really solemn and special about it.

I've also taken to writing what I've been up to in my diary, its a new concept to me, being organised. I think I'm going to need it this year though.

I should be writing my wedding invitations out, but it's falling behind, as is my application for my Queen's Guide Award, I've been trying to work out where I am in relation to the Senior Section, and the Leaders, and generally Girlguiding UK. I've worked out that I'm a young adult Leader, which means I can work on anything in the Senior Section programme. Sometimes it can seem a bit difficult to fit in, as i'm not in one age group or another. Luckily I get on really well with my Ranger unit, and each month makes it better.

Vivian, my three year old daughter started at a pre-school this month, which has been exciting for all of us, she was getting to a stage where she was bored all the time, and now she sings and dances and smiles all the time which I love.

Oh! how could I forget, I've spent the last two weeks moving from a 2 bed roomed flat to a 3 bed roomed house! It was certainly manic, but this time we decided to hire in some movers to do all the lifting and shifting for us, well worth every penny! Our cats have settled in nicely, the bunny has a new home, and the girls room is just as much of a mess as usual...and there are still boxes everywhere, still, as long as it gets done eventually and i know where all my clothes are i'm happy!

I was really excited to come back to guiding after Christmas because it was the first time i got to wear my leaders shirt, and see everyone after Christmas, I've been planning and re-planning my QGA but without a meeting with my mentor, i'm stuck. I've also been trying to make contacts with loads of other local guiders to build up a network, which seems to be working quite well. I'm even considering taking on an extra unit or two. My rangers have been planning what to do this term, and it looks like it should be fun, the year ahead looks full as well, what with thinking day, camp, Innovate and BIG GIG all on the horizon, to mention a few things!
