Kirsten's blogJune 2009On the 2nd of June, I sat my driving test and I ... passed!!! I got 10 minor faults which is a lot but it is still a pass. Then the day after my friends had organised a trip to the cinema and pizza which all determined on whether I passed my test or not because I was driving them to the cinema. There was some screaming from all parties when I first moved off but it was fine, no crashes. Then the Brownies had an ice cream survey because we couldnt get into the hall because of the European elections. When I pulled up at the meeting point and the Brownie leader turned and saw me driving alone, she also screamed. The survey was splitting the pack into 3 groups and each group going to one of the 3 local ice cream cafes. Each group was then spilt into groups of three and then one girl from each group of three bought an ice cream from one shop and shared it with her group, this way they only had 3 thirds of an ice cream instead of 3 ice creams. Although the leaders were allowed 3 ice creams, I only had one because I was trying to start to save money for uni. More D of E meetings to plan our full practice walk at the start of July and finish our training with emergency procedures and things like that. It was actually quite hard to plan different meals for 7 of us for 4 days. We ended up planning to eat cous cous a lot. Then pack holiday came. It was my first long drive so all the other leaders were concerned that I did it and made sure I phone home to tell them I arrived in one piece and so did the car. It started off really well although 2 of them were homesick. They finally all went to bed around 11 and leaders followed around 12 once they were all asleep. But it was not all good. At half 5 in the morning the Girls decided to jump off their bunk beds. So after s few screaming leaders and some sending home threats, they went back to sleep and so did the leaders. When we woke up for breakfast and the leaders had all had several mugs of coffee, we started the activities. The weekend had a Scottish theme so it was tartan and haggis all the way. I had to run my own activity for Queens Guide so I took the girls down to the local beach and got them to choose a stone. Then when they got back to the house, They made sure the stones were clean then decorated them with tartan and thistles. It was simple but it kept them quiet for a while. After other activities and an early night for everyone, it was time for the Highland Games on Sunday morning. We then played games until the parents arrived and after cleaning up, it was time to go home and go to bed! Next month, I have my full D of E practice week in the Scottish Borders. |
