Katie's blog
November 2008
Since I last posted lots has
happened. I have:
Taken part in Slum Survivor
(will explain)
Had a very messy evening with
recycling at Guides
Had a Halloween party and
Changing The World at Brownies
Talked to my teachers about
A-levels
Done my Final GCSE Geography
coursework, lost it, done it
again and handed it in (I just
hope its ok)
Revising for my exams (some
real some mocks)
I have a place to go on an
International trip next year and
have been to a meeting.
Had a Youth Council Meeting
Gone to a concert
How do I fit it all in? I have
no idea! And the fun will keep
coming in December. I wont tell
you about everything that would
take ages and some of it is
well, boring really.
Early this month I went to one
of my best friend Lauras
Birthday Party. We watched a
film and listened to music. I
had a really good time!
The weekend after that I spent
around 36 hours building and
living in a slum for charity. We
were hit with hurricanes and
flooding (in the form of my
church leaders Sally, John and
Lauren). The slum I was staying
in was mostly made out of
cardboard where as the other 2
were made out of wood. It was
rather hard to get into as you
literally had to wriggle in the
door. The worst bit was during
the night the side of our slum
fell down (other slums didnt
have to worry about that as they
were next to the wall or on the
end of the other one) leaving us
freezing at 3am.
After completing the weekend I
went to something called Soul
Survivor with them. Anyways they
made us stand up and tell
everyone there about what we had
done. The evening was great fun
and I got to meet some people I
hadnt seen in ages.
The Thursday after this, guides
was very messy. By messy I mean
we had to mop the floor of
paint. They had been given the
task to make a robot (out of
cardboard) that in some way
recycles things. Of course one
of the groups decided to cover
there whole thing in green and
red paint getting it everywhere.
On the tables, floor and all
over themselves. Was not fun
having to clean up.
I had to hand in my geography
coursework this month as well.
Now admittedly I was a tad
behind but I thought I had
completed it and got it all done
however disaster struck! Word
decided to corrupt everything.
The whole of my coursework that
was due in the next day had
gone. Everything I had been
working on for the last 4 months
vanished. I literally screamed
the house down. The morning I
got up ringing the school and
talked to my teachernow luckily
I know almost every teacher in
the geography department and
they know that I am trustworthy
with work. I gave them the whole
story and they understandingly
gave me to the Monday to
complete it. I worked all I
could to get the work completed
again and believe me it was hard
to do but I did it. I just hope
(fingers crossed) its ok.
This was followed by brilliant
news. I had got through the
international selection day! I
had been offered a place to go
to Belgium with about 10 other
girls. Brilliant! I went to the
meeting and was surprised when
one of the girls I had met on
the day had also got through. I
think they said that only half
of the people that went to the
selection day got places. It
sound like its going to be a
brilliant time with an outing to
a water park and to a city
somewhere (cant put my finger
on the name). Cant wait.
In the mean time though I have
to keep on top of Youth Council
as well. All Plans are almost in
action. Next month we are
running battle of the bands as
usual which will be fun. We will
be raising money for the youth
club we are setting up that will
have computers with internet
access, art room and lots of
stuff gonna be great. We have
set up a meeting with the local
secondary school head to talk
about a concerning matter at the
school as well as getting
(hopefully) some of the towns
skaters to tell us what they
want in the park we made now
that we have to update it due to
regulations.
The weekend just gone (16th) I
went with my best friend to a
concert over in Oxford. Elliot
Minor, Anberlin and The Hot
Melts. Was amazing! It was
really hot and stuffy in the
place as its quite small but
brilliant none the less. It was
quiet annoying as some tall
people (me being short at only
5ft1) pushed in front of us
meaning we couldnt see but that
all changed when the singer of
Elliot Minor (Alex) Jumped into
the crowed and everyone pushed
to get to him. Im not sure how
much money I spent but I must
have spent quite a bit as I came
home with a hoodie, t-shirt,
hat, poster and 2 wrist bands.
What a night to remember!
This Friday just gone (21st) I
was stuck in A&E after I
realised I couldnt move my
mouth on one side or basically
use the right side of my face.
After waiting around for 4 hours
I was told I have something
called Bells Palsy. They dont
know what cause it but the
theory is that its a viral
infection that infects the
nerves and paralysing them. So I
have been put on some 11 tablets
a day and told that it could
take up to 2 months to put
itself right. So we shall see. I
just hope it will be ok for
Disneyland in January with the
brownies.
How do I fit it in?
