Kat's blog
November 2008
Wow! November
was a busy month for me! Plenty
to talk about as so much has
been happening.
Started off the month with a
BRILLIANT trip to York with the
Guides for the Changing The
World event. Everyone (all 4
Guides and 3 Leaders) really
enjoyed themselves and there was
a heated discussion on the train
back home about which project we
should do as a Unit. In the end
the girls decided to do a
presentation about their
favourite 2 for the rest of the
Guides and the Railway Children
won.
After that I didn't see the
Guides again until the last
weekend of the month where we
held a sleepover in the hut. For
some of the girls it was their
first time away from parents for
the night and I think it's safe
to say everyone enjoyed
themselves. We made lots of
biscuits and despite warnings of
"don't eat them all now! Save
some for tomorrow!!!" all the
biscuits were eaten so there
were a load of hyper Guides
running around all night. The
"sleep pillows" we made as part
of the Railway Children
activities didn't help send them
to sleep sadly. The pillows were
gorgeous and filled with
lavender fragrance. I went a
little (OK, a lot!) over the top
with how much lavender I put in
mine when our fab Young Leader,
"Bob", made me one. You see, I
may be an adult but I'm just as
likely to go over the top as a
Guide is!
On the Ranger side of things
we've been very busy as well.
The day after the York event the
Rangers were out Geocaching. We
didn't get as many caches done
as we'd like as well... I'll
admit I got the info a bit
wrong. We were trying to do our
first multi cache (you get the
co-ordinates for a place and
have to solve a clue there to
move onto the next place which
is where the final cache is) and
it went the opposite direction
from where I thought it did and
left us a mile the wrong way.
Oops!!! We all got a bit of a
mental work out with the maths
though.
3 of us older ones ("Elle",
"Daphne" and I) all went to the
local firework display (one of
our Leaders, "Zeta" couldn't
make it as she was in the middle
of moving house) and had a great
time there. We found a purse on
the way back and due to the lack
of policemen around, 2 of us
ended up driving around to a
very grateful lady's house to
return it. It's nice to do
things like that for people. I
know when I lost my purse 1 time
how horrible it was knowing your
ID and all your bank details are
lost somewhere so at least we
were able to return them safe
and sound.
What else... well, we've had a
few other meeting where we
talked about what was available
at the moment and I told my
willing bunch of "volunteers"
about my final year Uni project
which they WILL help with
(they're looking forward to it,
honest!). You might also have
noticed I've started calling
people names. That's because
they all decided if I'm writing
a blog none of them want
mentioning by real name if I
need to say something about
someone.
So let me introduce my unit:
Leaders "PP" and "Zeta", and
Rangers "Harold", "Dougie",
"Bob", "Fred", "Heather", "Nicki",
"Elle", "Claire", and "Daphne".
You'd never guess half of us are
mega Heroes fans, right?! I'm
shocked 1 of them didn't opt for
Kilgore but that's a whole other
story entirely.
We've also been making some
Christmas cards (the Guides and
the Rangers) as we're taking
part in a Christmas card
exchange with other units around
the country. Rangers of course
work best with food so we sat
with a tub of chocolate rolls
while we made ours and decided
the best thing about being a
Ranger was that we could just
chill out, say the most stupid
things and behave like a kid for
a while whilst having a right
laugh (usually at the stupid
things each other say).
