Helen's blog
July 2009
Chile has finally arrived, as
I am writing this I am sitting
in a Youth Hostel in London with
Team Chile as we are departing
this evening. We met up
yesterday to check all our
resources and repacked our bags,
it was extremely hot in our room
but I suppose we can't complain
as it's going to be cold in
Chile. The beds were also
extremely squeaky so all in all
not the best nights sleep but
we've got a 17 hour plane
journey to look forward to.
I've been to see We Will Rock
You which is an amazing show and
would definitely recommend it to
anyone, it certainly got
everyone singing and clapping
anyway. A trip to the Last Night
of the Wilton Proms was also in
order, it was an open air
concert given by the Bournemouth
Symphony Orchestra playing a
great selection of classical
music. It was amazing to see
2000 people sitting in the open
complete with tables,
tablecloths and candelabras,
luckily it didn't rain and there
was a spectacular firework
display at the end.
We took 37 Brownies and Rainbows
on their summer outing to the
Rare Breeds farm and they all
had great fun racing pigs,
feeding goats and climbing
through the mystical marsh and
topping it off with an ice
cream. Thoroughly tiring but vey
enjoyable.
This last month has been really
hectic with putting together
final session plans for Chile,
looking at my Queen's Guide
Award and Leadership
Qualification and also working
full time. If there has one
thing that I have learned in my
gap year it's that I never want
to work in an office again! I
have immense respect for all
those leaders who work full time
and manage to do all the Guiding
activities on top. Our Division
said goodbye to two leaders who
have been adult leaders for 20
and 30 years. What an impressive
amount of time and judging by
there photos some very exciting
times too.
So I am about to set of for
Chile and my next blog will be
full of my adventures.
