Caroline's blogMarch 2009This month I was finally presented with my Chief Guides Challenge Award the badge is truly lush! I went along to my county Celebration of Achievements to receive it with two other Rangers in my Division. The night was a good one, especially as a the Senior Section Advisor in my division received an award after being nominated by me and three other rangers who believed she deserved some recognition for her fantastic work. Duke of Edinburghs Award planning took up a lot of my time this month, drawing up route cards for our Gold expedition in Slovenia, as well as planning for our practice expedition in the Snowdonia National Park in Wales. We threw a Race Night on the 21st to raise funds for our Slovenia expedition, and in the end we raised over 650. A Race Night is basically a night of betting on recorded horse races and winning a percentage back if you bet on the right horse. It was a great fundraising idea and my friends and family, a long with over one hundred others, really enjoyed it. The total was shared out amongst the group, but it still was a welcome contribution as weve had to raise 1700 over the past two years. Im really looking forward to heading out to Slovenia in July. At Rangers we spent the first few weeks of March producing Mothers Day presents, to ensure we didnt forget we made mosaic covered pots which I put a potted flower in. It was a nice touch, and it was good using proper glass mosaics for it. In our last meeting before the holidays we had a Mamma Mia! night, watching the film, eating nibbles and singing along. |
