I'm an Assistant Adult Leader!

CharleyMeet Charley. She's an Assistant Adult Leader and is also a Senior Section Representative for Anglia.

What does your role involve?

As an Assistant Senior Section Leader I facilitate the meetings for the Senior Section, as a soundboard for ideas and providing support for the members.
As a Senior Section representative I attended region executive committee meetings, helping to provide an opinion on the decisions being made for young people, also helping to prepare activities for 'Minivate'.

What do you love most about guiding?

I love that I have had so many fantastic opportunities open up for me, for example visiting Switzerland and Our Chalet, attending Essex Jamboree in 2004 and many other great things have happened for me thanks to Guiding. I have made so many wonderful friends that I probably would not have met had I not been involved.

What guiding achievement are you most proud of?

I am currently working towards my Queens Guide Award which will be spectacular if I get to the end of it. At the moment I am happy that I have learnt to knit for the Personal Skill Development section of the Queens Guide Award. I am also really proud of all that I have done, especially gaining my Camp Licence and Catering Qualification.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about becoming a Senior Section member and taking on your role?

I would say just go for it. Anyone can do whatever they put their mind to and the experience you gain is phenomenal, decision making, organisation and communication are just some of the skills you will learn. The experiences that crop up along the way are great fun, and you should grab them when you can, with both hands!
