I'm a Ranger!

Sarah GilbornMeet Sarah. She's a Ranger with Luton South Division Rangers.

What does your role involve?

I attend fortnightly Ranger meetings. Some Ranger units meet weekly and some only meet monthly. We do loads of fun stuff and its totally flexible too. We talk and talk about stuff that matters to us. The unit I go to loves food-so our meetings always involve something edible. As a Ranger I work towards something called Look Wider. Look wider is flexible and I can chose what I want to do which is great!

What do you love most about guiding?

Everything! I wouldn't change anything to do with guiding. I love being a Ranger and becoming part of the Senior Section has opened up so many opportunities for me! If I had to narrow it down to my favourite thing it would be Senior Section residentials. I enjoy going away with the Rangers and having a break from my school work. It's a great time to relax and have loads of girly fun!

What guiding achievement are you most proud of?

Staying involved within guiding through high school as guiding isn't seen as cool. But it is! We do loads of great stuff which I dont think is publicised enough. I am also proud of gaining some of the Look Wider octants as they look great on your CV.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about becoming a Senior Section member and taking on your role?

Join! What is stopping you? I have made so many great friends through guiding and I have been given the chance to take part on so many opportunities that I would not have know about if I had not joined Rangers. Email joinus@girlguiding.org.uk to find out where your local Ranger unit meets.
