Members in Queen's birthday honours list
A number of Girlguiding volunteers have been recognised in
the Queen's birthday honours list in recognition of service to
their communities. Many congratulations to:
-
Gillian Rosemary Dawson (MBE), Girlguiding LaSER, for services
to young people
-
'I actually heard about the award back in April, as they
write to ask if you would be willing to accept, At the time I had
been busy organising two very big Guide events which had taken
a ridiculous amount of time, and I was just thinking “Why do I do
this, I must be mad!” … and then the postman put the letter through
the door!'
-
Bonnie Suzanne Hill, DL (MBE), Girlguiding Anglia, for services
to the community
'I feel very honoured to have been awarded the M.B.E. for
services to the community, but I am very aware that I have always,
within all the organisations I have worked with, been part of a
team. So in part this is as much a tribute to those I have
worked with as it is for me. I would like to thank those
in guiding and the other organisations that I am connected with for
the fun, support and friendship which has led to this wonderful
award.'
-
Elizabeth Cross(MBE), Girlguiding South West England, for
services to young people
'I was very surprised to be awarded an MBE for something that I
have enjoyed and wanted to do. I got so much out of guiding
myself when I was young and it still continues to offer so many
opportunities as well as fun for the girls of today. I feel
very privileged, as there are many many people who give of their
time to guiding.'
-
Edith Eleanor Boyd, Medallist of the Order of the British
Empire (BEM), Girlguiding Ulster, for services to the Girl Guides
Movement in Northern Ireland
'I feel very humbled, but very pleased to have been given this
award. The guiding movement has given me so much in the way of
skills, friends, fun and much, much more. I am very proud to have
been associated with such a great movement for so long and continue
to support them in any way I can.'
-
Elizabeth Bolland(MBE), Girlguiding Midlands, for services to
young people.
'I felt honoured, very surprised, totally unexpected but
absolutely delighted that guiding has been recognised. After nearly
60 years since I became a Brownie, I still enjoy organising
and participating in events for all ages, thoroughly enjoy
mentoring new Leaders, and I appreciate the way Girlguiding has
moved forward to meet the needs of new generations.'
-
Rosemary Hickson (BEM), Girlguiding LaSER, for
services to the community.
Congratulations also go to:
Professor Heather Cubie (MBE)Girlguiding Scotland and member of
the Scottish Executive Committee, for services to healthcare
science in Scotland;
and to Trefoil Guild member
