Members participate in Lord Mayor's Show
Girlguiding
UK members from the London and South East England Region (LaSER)
participated in the 2011 Lord Mayor’s Show, which took place in
central London on 12 November.
Eighty girls and Leaders of all ages were there to represent
guiding to the estimated 400,000 people lining the streets, with
the girls performing pom-pom routines to music alongside a
specially decorated float.
Charlotte, a Guide
from Cheam, was interviewed live by presenter Clare Balding for the
BBC, and spoke of how much she enjoys being a Guide.
Suggestions for the LaSER float theme were submitted by the
young members, and the concept ‘10 million girls around the world’
was chosen to symbolise the worldwide membership of guiding. The
design featured templates of people coloured with the uniforms of
Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from around the world.
LaSER has participated in the show for the last nine years, and
each year one of the Region’s 19 Counties takes a turn to design
and build the float. This year was the turn of Greater London West.
Members in the county have had the opportunity to work towards a
Lord Mayor’s Show 2011 Challenge Badge, which includes activities
to increase their knowledge and awareness of London and its
history.
