Leader carries Paralympic torch
A Rainbow Leader from Wiltshire has carried the Paralympic torch
through London.
Victoria Cornish, who has been involved in guiding for 14 years,
was selected for a leg of the flame's route due
to her voluntary work with Girlguiding and other
charities.
'There were loads of people lining the streets and shouting and
clapping – the atmosphere was just brilliant,' said the 1st Lydiard
Millicent Rainbow Leader.
A paraplegic since the age of 14, Victoria got involved in sports
after leaving hospital, taking part in field events, basketball and
track racing – the latter of which led to her training alongside
some Team GB Paralympians, including former
Guide and Brownie Tanni Grey-Thompson, and London 2012 gold
medallist David Weir.
'I’ve never seen myself as having a disability and I’ve always
tried to show people how much you can do,' Victoria stated.
She added, 'I think the Paralympics returning home to Britain
from where they began will show people what we can do, not focus on
what we can’t.'
