Guiding narrowboat launch

Chief Guide Gill Slocombe has officially
launched Girlguiding Birmingham and Northamptonshire’s brand-new,
purpose-built narrow boat, Tuptonia.
The vessel will be used for guiding trips and breaks for members
from across the Midlands, enabling girls to have a memorable
experience whilst developing skills and confidence from being in a
boat crew.
It was built after almost eight years of
fundraising and replaces an older model which was used by local
guiding groups since 1994.
'I’m proud to be able to launch this wonderful new boat,' said
Chief Guide Gill Slocombe.
'The fact that it’s now on the water ready for all these
wonderful girl-only adventures is testament to the spirit and
determination of our volunteers, who worked so hard to raise the
funds.'
County Commissioner Maggie Jones said, 'We are delighted that the
Chief Guide could join us to help celebrate the launch of our
fantastic new narrowboat.
'The boat is a tremendous resource which will provide girls with
an adventure as well as opportunities to learn valuable new
skills.'
The naming ceremony took place at Alvechurch Marina,
Worcestershire, in the presence of some of the Leaders and young
members who will be using the boat.
