Help overseas guiding affected by disaster

Girlguiding UK has been in contact with Girlguiding New Zealand and the Girl Scouts of Japan following the natural disasters that have recently hit both countries.

The national office for Girlguiding New Zealand, which is based in Christchurch, has been moved to a temporary location and some guiding halls can no longer be used. All staff and volunteers are safe and well.

The national office for the Girl Scouts of Japan has confirmed the safety of members who were in the area affected by the earthquake and tsunami, although some have lost members of their family and property.

Girlguiding UK has made offers of financial support to both associations through grants from the Guide Friendship Fund. To donate to the Guide Friendship Fund please click here.*

You can also download an activity pack to use with your unit to help them understand the kind of issues that the Guide Friendship Fund Supports.

If you would like to send a message of support to Girlguiding New Zealand and/or the Girl Scouts of Japan, please email International.Commissioner@girlguiding.org.uk.

* Please note that any donations you send in will go into the general fund to ensure that we have sufficient money to give grants following natural disasters, and to support the WAGGGS mutual aid scheme and UK units in need. We are unable to accept donations specifically for Japan or New Zealand.

Be challenged by new experiences & achieve a sense of pride in accomplishment.
