80 years of Our Chalet
Our Chalet,
the first World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)
World Centre, celebrates its 80th birthday this
year.
The Centre is set in a picturesque skiing
and hiking area of the Swiss Alps an hour away from the capital
city of Bern.
It was opened in 1932 after WAGGGS agreed
that an international centre representing the guiding ethos of
friendship and understanding should be built for members from
across the world to use. The project was financed by American Girl
Scout Leader Helen Storrow, who declared it open alongside the
first World Chief Guide Olave, the Lady Baden-Powell.
Thousands of girls, young women and
volunteers have visited Our Chalet since its founding for
experiences ranging from outdoor activities to educational
seminars.

located in
India (Sangam),
Mexico (Our Cabaña) and
London (Pax Lodge).
Girlguiding offers a wide range of exciting, creative and
adventurous opportunities both home and abroad for girls and young
women. Find out how
