What sort of prize is suitable?

Alpha and Omega winnersGuiding is organised into the following sections:

  • Rainbows (aged five to seven)
  • Brownies (aged seven to ten)
  • Guides (aged 10 to 14)
  • Senior Section (aged 14 to 25).

Competitions aimed at our younger girls should involve a fun and developmental activity to give the girls a sense of achievement regardless of whether they win. Ideas that have proved popular include colouring and design-based competitions and activities that Leaders can use as part of a meeting.

Prizes for Rainbows, Brownies and Guides must benefit the whole unit (up to 24 girls) rather than just the winner. Popular prizes have included cinema screenings, dance workshops, visits to attractions and story readings from authors. Prizes must be worth at least £300.

'Winning a private screening of the movie Hop was a unique and different prize which our Brownies enjoyed immensely. The girls had a truly fantastic day which they told all their friends about!  Next time we see a Girlguiding UK competition, we shall certainly be entering and would encourage others to do the same!'  Pauline Crisp, 1st Whiteknights Brownies.

For Senior Section members and adults it is possible to offer prizes for an individual or a small group. For example, you could offer theme park tickets for a Senior Section member and her friends, or a voucher for craft materials for Leaders.

Girlguiding UK is active nationally, so prizes should be available to girls in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please read our Competition Terms and Conditions for more information.
