Organise an event
From a sponsored run to a cake sale round the offices of a
large company it’s easy to organise a fundraising event to raise
money for Girlguiding UK or your local guiding group.
What? When? Where?
Decide what event you want to do, when would be best for you to do
it and where.
Ensure your venue has the required amenities
that your event may need, whether it is in inside or outside of a
local community centre or a meeting room in a company - perhaps one
you already work for.
Legalities
When collecting donations at a fundraising there may be certain
permissions that you must obtain depending on your event. Always
remember to find out if there are any regulations or licensing laws
that apply to your event. You can find this out by visiting the
Institute of Fundraising website; the Fundraising and Marketing Team may
also be able to help.
Publicity
In order to have a successful event you need to advertise it. Put
up posters, send emails to friends, family and colleagues,
advertise on social media sites like Facebook and spread the word
to people you speak to throughout the day.
Why not mention your event in your company’s
magazine, newsletter or on the canteen notice board?
Ask local shops, libraries or surgeries if
they can display your poster in their window or on notice
boards.
The Proceeds
Check to see if you can claim gift aid on money raised at your
event before the date as you need to keep certain pieces of
information in order to put in your claim. Find out more about Gift Aid.
After the event, don’t forget to thank the
people that helped out and attended your event. Let them know how
much was raised and that the money will be sent directly to
Girlguiding UK. It's also a good idea to provide information on how
they can find out more about our work and how their kind efforts
and generous donations will help 400,000 girls and young women
across the UK.
