Past Charity Challenges
Our Charity Challenges, for all members aged 18 plus, are
fundraising events that combine the personal challenge of taking
part in an exciting overseas adventure with raising money for
a good cause. During the Centenary, Girlguiding UK ran three of the
most exciting Charity Challenges we have ever offered to raise
money for the Centenary Fund.
The Centenary Fund enables individual
girls and young women to participate in something otherwise not
available to them.
Tanzania Rift Valley Masai Trek - 2011
In October 2011, members and supporters took up the
challenge to trek the Rift Valley in Tanzania, not just as a
physical challenge for themselves but to raise money for
Girlguiding UK’s Centenary Fund – distributing grants to individual
girls and young women so they can fulfil their dreams.
'Everything was amazing, I experienced so
much.' Lorraine Pack, Guide Leader.

Chile and Argentina Trans-Andes on Horseback - 2010
Our trek on
horseback was a once-in-a-lifetime trip which saw
participants experiencing life in Argentina and Chile,
riding through spectacular scenery including glaciers, waterfalls,
forests and glacial lakes.
'I don’t think you could get much higher to
have a mountain-top moment.’ Trans-Andes group member.

Cuba Coast to Coast Trek - 2010
This coast-to-coast trek provided an incredible
opportunity for members, taking them on a stunning 90km
trek across Cuba, the pearl of the Caribbean, through lush
vegetation, coffee plantations and mango orchards.
'It has been for me a trip of a life time - I
have never done anything like it before' Amanda Carey, Guide
Leader.

Paris to Geneva Cycle Ride - 2010
Our Paris to Geneva cycle ride was an
exhilarating challenge that linked two cosmopolitan cities, with
cycles through quiet woodland, rural plateaux and the famous
vineyard regions of Champagne and Burgundy.
‘It’s great to have met people in guiding
from all around the UK. When I first finished the ride, I thought,
“I’m never getting on that bike again!” But a week later, I was
missing all my fellow cyclists and desperate to get back in the
saddle.’ Nathalie Bick, Senior Section Leader.
