Brownies, Guides and Senior Section members learned about HIV and AIDS and were encouraged to fund raise. The girls could then choose items on the UNICEF UK website to help the fight against HIV and Aids.

Just say yes!

UNICEF UK asked Girlguiding UK members to help them make the world a better and safer place for children and young people and 1,533 members said YES! Groups around the UK ran their own campaigns to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS and its effects on children around the world. In addition, members raised around £5,000 to help fund the global response to HIV and AIDS, paying for items like medicine for children and vital HIV testing kits.

During the 1st Taunton (Wellsprings) Brownies Just Say Yes! project, they made memory books and trees of life - to show how much our friends and families support us. They talked about discrimination and wrote to their MP about the unfairness in the world. 'We chose a sponsored event to raise money because UNICEF and the girls decided on a mini Olympic theme,' said their Leader. 'Each six put forward an idea and then they voted on their favourite.'

The girls raised a total of £227 for UNICEF which was enough to help five children orphaned by AIDS. It was also enough to provide HIV medicine for five children for a month, to provide an Art in a Box project and an HIV test kit for-50 mums to-be.
