Groups were invited to adopt their local Save The Children shop and volunteer to run this for the day. Money raised has been directed towards child survival projects around the world.
Adopt a Shop
6,773 members opted to Adopt a Shop, tempted by the excitement of running their own shop for a day! This was a real challenge, which included weeks of preparation and excellent teamwork on the day. In total, 84 shops were adopted, and another 215 pop-up shops were opened across the UK, to raise a total of £54,735 for Save the Children.
The 1st Bishopdown Guides, of Salisbury, chose to support Save the Children. The unit split into three teams with a Managing Director, a Marketing Team, an Operations Team and a Finance Team. The preparation for the event went well. The group received a positive response from the local community, who, after door dropping, were kind enough to leave donations to collect. In total the pop-up shop raised £90 for Save the Children, which the group presented to a local representative at the beginning of July.
'The part I liked the best out of the whole Save the Children activity was the car boot sale itself. It was fun to see what people liked the most. If we ever did it again we would know what people like best and we could see if we could get more of that kind of thing to raise even more money. It was nice to think that all of this money was going to a good cause
