To take action members took a deaf friendly pledge at the end of the project. Members were encouraged to help raise funds by combining there activities with fundraising events.

Hands up!

20,983 members took part and put their Hands up! to make the world a better place for deaf children. Girls have been painting their nails to show off their newly learned finger-spelling skills, holding loud fashion shows and designing their own listening buses - all to help raise £67,000 to fund the NDCS Listening Bus, which will change the lives of deaf children across the UK. 16,316 members also learned to sign the Promise and 17,585 members learned how to be deaf friendly.

The 12th Greenock Brownies helped to 'change the world' by supporting the Listening Bus and raising £532.94 for the National Deaf Children's Society. As well as a sponsored silence, they had a family fun night with tombola's, home baking, nail painting, and a hand collage from all the 21 brownies, three Leaders and lots of guests! They also enjoyed learning to sign the promise which was then demonstrated to all of Greenock Division when they renewed the promise on stage at Thinking Day, in Greenock Town Hall. They learned a little about the art of Mendi and read stories of Brownies around the country who are deaf and tried to imagine the challenges that they face every day.

'We picked the NDCS project as we had just completed our disability awareness badge which included deafness. We wanted to help in some way and to raise awareness of deaf children around the country. And to help fund a fantastic resource in the Listening Bus.'
