Mental Health Foundation
The Mental Health Foundation improves the mental health of people of all ages – children and young people, adults and older people.
We do this by carrying out ground-breaking research, as well as campaigning to raise awareness of mental health issues and influence government policy.
We also directly help millions of individuals every year through our information booklets, website and media work.
The emotional well-being of children and young people is just as important as their physical health.
Good mental health allows them to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults.
Sadly, cases of anxiety and depression among younger generations have risen by 70 per cent over the last 25 years. Bullying, family problems, bad diets, lack of exercise and poverty are just some of the possible reasons why.
We know the causes, but at the Mental Health Foundation we want to find the solutions. Where possible we want to prevent mental health problems among the young. Equally, we want to help children and adolescents when they’re feeling sad, angry, confused or distressed.
Why they want to work with you
Girls and young women are growing up in an ever changing, complex world and are facing an increasing number of stresses, one of which is bullying. That is why we are pleased to be working with Girlguiding UK to raise awareness about the importance of healthy friendships because they are vital to a girl’s emotional well-being and development, boost self-esteem and give girls strength when life gets tough.
Through the Friendship Challenge we hope to help girls and young women recognise the importance of good friendships. We hope that Girlguiding UK members will learn how to develop and sustain healthy friendships and reach out to others in their local community and make new friendships.
