How do I contact my local hospice?

Take a look at the Hospice Information website or call 020  7520 8222. You can also find further details in the introduction to each of the activity packs.

My local hospice is not a member of Help the Hospice but we would like to support them?

Help the Hospices is a membership organisation and some hospices are not members for example Marie Curie Hospices. Groups are welcome to approach their local hospice and work with them if they wish. Help the Hospices have briefed all of their hospice members on the project and they are expecting to work with Girlguiding UK members. However, other local hospices may be willing to work with you if you explain the project to them.

Can I support more than one hospice?

Yes you can! However please do let the hospice fundraisers involved know which other hospices you are supporting.

What do I do if one of my members is affected by or has experience of hospice care?

Help the Hospices together with the charity Winstons Wish have designed guidance notes for Leaders to talk to their members about bereavement. If you have any specific questions please contact Help the Hospices on 020 7520 8200.

How will the hospice use any money raised?

The funds you raise for your local hospice will help to provide vital in-patient, home care or day care for children and adults who live in your local community and face life limiting illnesses. Each hospice needs different things, so any money you raise or time you can give will make a big difference to families in your area.

Has this answered your query? If not, take a look at our Girlguiding UK: Changing the World forum to see if someone has already asked your query. If not, post your question and see if other Leaders can help you out.

Failing that, email changingtheworld@girlguiding.org.uk and we’ll do our best to answer your query.

How do I talk about hospice care to my members?

The first thing to do is to ring and speak to your local hospice fundraiser (see how do I find my local hospice above). Someone from the hospice may be able to come and talk about the hospice and the work that they do in your area. If they are unable to help and you are still not feeling confident about speaking about hospice care then do please feel free to call Help the Hospices on 020 7520 8222 for advice.
