Brownies, Guides and Senior Section members were asked to trial a selection of green solutions and tell Friends of the Earth what they found out.
Be a Climate Champion
3,820 members took part in Be a climate champion, which aimed at finding out what are stopping people leading greener lifestyles. 193 units tested green solutions including cycling and lift sharing and told Friends of the Earth how easy or hard they found them. Friends of the Earth have published the findings in their Be A Climate Champion Report, which made recommendations on how local authorities can help people overcome the obstacles our girls found to leading greener lives.
And as well as taking direct action to influence decision makers, members taking part saved 204 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions!
'Climate Change is important to me because I’d like to know I’m living in a world that will last. I have started walking to school more often and I have been using less water in the kettle. I hope that I’m a bit greener and it will change me a lot more’
Kelsee, Guide from Derby 14
'This project is a very worthwhile thing to do because it doesn’t just provide information for your child, it also provides information for the whole family about the importance of Climate Change'
Elaine (mother of a Guide)
'I think the Government aren’t doing enough to combat climate change – and this makes me really angry because they have the power to do so much more grrr! Even really small and simple things make a difference. It would be really easy to say that every home has to have a certain amount of insulation'
Rebecca, Young Leader 1st Machen Brownies
