What does it mean to Be a Climate Champion?

Being a Climate Champion is all about making positive changes in your own life to help the environment and encouraging everyone, from friends and family right up to Government, to do the same.

How long will it take to complete the Be a Climate Champion challenge?

Five weeks in total – one to prepare, three weeks to complete the challenges and one to collate the results.

Do I need to complete the project by the 1 May 2009?

All results need to be recorded by the 1 May 2009 for them to be included in the Girlguiding UK and Friends of the Earth report. Units can still take part in the project activities after this date until the end of the Changing the World year but their results from the Action Challenge will not be counted.

Are there any rewards for taking part?

For each challenge sheet completed the girls get a certificate to keep. There are ten to collect in total. There’s also a competition - winners will get to represent Girlguiding UK and Friends of the Earth at the 2009 Climate Convention in Denmark and help launch the report, which will be generated from this project.

Do you have any useful information for parents?

We have provided a letter for parents explaining what the Be a Climate Champion challenge is all about. And if you simply want to tell them a bit more about Friends of the Earth, why not order some free copies of A Good Place to Start: An introduction to Friends of the Earth from our online shop.

My group number is not recognised when I try to register on the Friends of the Earth site?

Prior to February 2008 all group numbers ere between four and seven digits long.
Now group numbers are eight digits long and begin with the number 9.
To register on the site please prefix your group number with the number 9 and then put in the number 0 until it is eight digits long e.g. old unit number 4444 becomes new number 90004444 or 55555 becomes 9005555 or 7777777 becomes 97777777.
This is part of Project Streamline to improve our Membership Support Services. Girlguiding UK apologise for any confusion caused. If you are experiencing difficulties please call Membership Support Services on 0161 9412237. They will be able to give you the correct number.
N.B This excluded brand new units who have registered since Feb 2008 your group number should be seven digits and begin 21xxxxx.
