Guide and Senior Section groups were challenged to learn more about homelessness and how we can look out for the danger signs and help vulnerable people around us avoid becoming homeless.
Homelessness: Put a sock in it
11,023 members took part in Homelessness: Put a sock in it to raise awareness about homelessness and how it can happen to any of us. A total of 7,727 members raised awareness of homelessness in their local community. Members also raised £14,410 for the Crisis Skylight Centres in London and Newcastle, which provide a starting place for homeless people to rebuild their lives.
Bloxwich Trefoil Guild held a community day to promote the Trefoil Guild and decided to help out Crisis at the same time. They put up a display to inform people about Crisis and, using the activity pack and some of our their own research information about what homeless people go through. They made and sold 'smelly socks' along with brand new pairs of socks. They also gave out copies of a 'Fab Feet' exercise for people to take away and ended the day with a raffle.
They found people to be pretty generous as they supported not only the raffle but also made donations to the cause. The total sum sent to Crisis was £150.
You can still download the Homelessness: Put a sock in it activity pack by visiting the Crisis information page.
