How to take part
- Download the project resources.
- Take part in child poverty activities.
- Develop a winning business idea.
- Apply to Barnardo’s for a project loan of up to £100 or seek your own start up costs.
- Start up your business and make as much money as you can for UK children in poverty.
- Send your funds raised directly to Barnardo’s and repay any loans.
How is this project unique?
- This is an opportunity for Senior Section members to make a real difference by using their ideas – the sky is the limit!
- If you raise over £500, 25 per cent can be kept an invested in local guiding.
- Barnardo’s are offering their local support to make your business work.
Things to think about
Only Senior Section members can apply for loans from Barnardo’s units or individuals can use the project resources and seek their own funding. You can also access support from Barnardo’s to make your business work.
There are three dates through the year when you can apply for loans from Barnardo's.
How will you be taking action?
Raising awareness of UK Children in Poverty both with members of Girlguiding UK and your business customers.
Raising money for a Barnardo’s project local to you and helping take children out of poverty in the UK.

If applying for loans from Barnardo’s they must be paid back within the given timeframe and within the conditions of the loan.
This project is designed primarily for Senior Section members. It can easily be adapted by Trefoil Guilds or Groups of Leaders. This project could be adapted for older Guides if they would like a challenge!
