Brownies ‘Snowed Under’ by Christmas Cards
A Staffordshire Brownie Pack has been ‘snowed under’ by the over 23,000 Christmas cards collected, counted and recycled as part of The Girlguiding UK project ‘Changing the World’. 1st Yoxall Brownies from the Needwood Division have teamed up with The Woodlands Trust to undertake several challenges over the year and were thrilled with the outcome of their first challenge, recycling Christmas cards. ‘We had hoped to collect about 2,000 cards’ said Brown Owl Penny Bailey, ‘the final total was staggering and well beyond our wildest dreams’.
The Brownies had lots of fun counting the cards, even though it was hard work. ‘We couldn’t believe how many cards we got’ said Brownie Jessica Robb. ‘It was a lot of hard work but worth it and it was great seeing all of the different cards, some of them were really good’ said Brownie Charlotte Wood.
The ‘Big Count In’ was the result of a fantastic response from friends, family and the villagers of Yoxall, with St Peter’s School providing an additional collection point. Special thanks should be given to Sue at W.H.Smith in Lichfield who cheerfully helped the Brownies to get their cards to The Woodlands Trust via the collection box in the store.
