 I'm a Brownie too
The Saturdays
The Saturdays used to be Brownies!

Rochelle I was a Rainbow and a Brownie.
Frankie I was a Brownie too.
Mollie Yeah I was too. I was a Sixer and I loved it!
Rochelle I didn't go to Guides though.

What were you favourite memories?

Rochelle I've got a picture actually, when I got a badge. I can't remember what for, I think it was the Cooks badge. I've got a picture of me, sat on a toadstool I think.
Frankie Yeah we had a toadstool and you had to skip round it and sing a song.
Rochelle Oh yeah.
Frankie And you had to wear the uniform.
Rochelle Yeah, at Rainbows I had a blue tabard.
Frankie Ah! With the little Rainbow badge on the front!
Una Over in Ireland, it's a bit different. You wear blue with a yellow tie and a little gold badge.
Frankie I got a certificate for being most like a monkey!
(Everyone laughs)
Frankie It was when I went away with my Brownies and I got over the tyre wall the fastest! Yessssss!
Rochelle I got a badge for cooking. I think I made those cakes, you know those Tom and Jerry ones you had when you were younger.
Mollie The ones that you make from a packet?
Rochelle Yeah.
Mollie Oh I love them!

What do you think about Brownies nowadays?

Una I think it must be really fun, they seem to be having lots of fun out there.
Mollie It's a good thing for them to do, there aren't any guys involved. Just like us, in a girl band!
(Everyone says 'Yeah!')
Mollie And you can talk about girlie stuff all day!

If you could have a Brownie badge for a talent that you have, what would it be?

All singing!
Frankie Id quite like a cooking badge, as I cant cook!
Rochelle I could teach you, I got my Brownie cooking badge!

Some of our girls are taking part in a big project called Changing the World. What do you think about Brownies trying to change the world?

Rochelle I think it's really good.
Frankie Go girls go!
Rochelle It's really positive that young girls want to do that as well. Its brilliant!
Una There aren't enough women doing amazing things in the world.
Mollie It's also good to get involved at a young age and become aware of everything and how you can change the world around you.
Vanessa If you start young, you become more aware of these things as you grow up and that's really great!

If you could do something to change the world, what would it be?

Vanessa I hate the congestion charge. I agree that people should try to stop using their cars, but...
Rochelle Yeah I hate it too, the congestion charge is not the way forward.
Una We should be researching more and looking into modes of transport that are environmentally friendly.
Mollie 4x4s aren't very good.
Una No they're not.
Mollie But they look really good!
Rochelle Yeah that's the downside!

How would you describe your music?

(Everyone says 'pop'.)
Vanessa It's girly.
Rochelle Yeah but not too girly so that guys feel, like overpowered. On our album, there is something for everyone. There are a couple of ballads on there, and a lot of up-tempo ones too. There is a bit of everything.
Frankie Yeah, it's a bit of a mixture. Something for everyone.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Mollie As a band?
(Everyone says 'The Spice Girls')
Frankie Not musically, just personalities.
Una I think it's up to individual tastes in music. We all bring our different musical tastes to the band.

How did you meet?

Frankie We met at a dance studio.

How did you come up with the name 'The Saturdays'?

Frankie We didn't have a name for ages, and we were becoming the band with no name and we were really fed up with it. So we got together with loads of people from our label and had a massive meeting. We came up with loads of names, like 200 names! We were trying to think about what people like, and what we like and Saturday was one of them.
Rochelle Yeah then someone stuck a 'the' in front of it and it just kind of happened!
Mollie All the names were up against the wall and we looked at it and thought it looked good.
Vanessa We didn't want a normal girl band name, you know if you saw it on paper you wouldn't think we were a girl band.
Rochelle And we just love the weekend, so it kind of makes sense.
