The Hodgeheg by Dick King Smith

The Hodgeheg
by Dick King Smith
Max the hedgehog and his family live at Number 5a. They long to visit the park across the road but so many cars and trucks whizz past that it is impossible to cross in safety. That is until Max notices that humans are able to cross the road safely. Trouble is, after getting injured, he starts to get his words muddled up. Can he convince his family to cross the road?

Max the hedgehog is so funny! He keeps calling everyone hodgehegs! I love this book as I love hedgehogs. It also helps you to learn about road safety.

My teacher has been reading us the hodgeheg and I really like it. My favourite characters are the three sisters. They are like me and my sisters. I don't have a brother though. I would tell all the brownies out there to read this book cos its so cool.

Lisa, aged ten, thinks this...

I enjoyed The Hodgeheg and would recommend it to a friend. My favourite character was Max because he was so adventurous and was determined to cross. In the story, Max wanted to find a safe place for hedgehogs to cross the road. He found one way- a zebra crossing. He tried to get over the road, but got bumped by a car and so had to go home. When he got gome he spoke backwardly from the bump. He went out again to find a safer way to cross and found traffic lights with a red and green man. He got bumped again. So when he went out for a third time he found a solution. A lollipop lady! This was a great book.
