Hautbois is a beautiful 19th-century house set in over 28
acres of grounds near Norwich. With a peaceful riverside setting,
it has a wealth of natural attractions as well as excellent indoor
and outdoor facilities.
The house offers comfortable accommodation, which, combined with
a home-made catering service, makes it an ideal venue for training
events or simply a get-away-from-it-all break. It is a good base
for exploring the Norfolk Broads and is only a short
distance from the coast.
Owned by Girlguiding Anglia, Hautbois has been
Anglia's Residential and Activity Centre since 1998. It was
bequested to the Region by the Patteson sisters, who
devoted their lives to guiding. Hautbois has recently been extended
and now features a new multi-purpose room for up to 60 people,
conference or dining style.
For guiding and leisure
Activities
On-site outdoor activities include climbing, abseiling,
canoeing, archery, pioneering, orienteering, nightline and
much more. Swimming and bike hire are available locally.
Wheelchair users are able to take part in archery and it is
hoped that other activities will be made accessible to wheelchair
users in the near future. Those with a visual impairment may take
part in canoeing, climbing, abseiling and night line.
Events
Adult Leader training events and leisure events are
arranged throughout the year. Click here for the events
calendar.
Hautbois is available mid-week and some weekends for
County/Division/District events, Trefoil Guild holidays, and Guide
or Brownie self-catering holidays.
Residential
Both catered and self-catering accommodation is available for up
to 38 people in a mixture of single, twin and shared rooms. We have
13 bedrooms, of which eight have en suite facilities, ranging from
one to five beds in each room. There are seven campsites, most with
flush toilets, and all with access to showers.
One room on the first floor is available for wheelchair users
with an accessible toilet and shower-room attached. The recently
installed lift also gives access to other rooms on the first floor
for those with mobility difficulties.
For business
Conference facilities are available all year round to any
organisation on either a residential or non-residential basis.
There are two comfortable training rooms, the largest of which
holds 60 people and has presentation and multimedia equipment.
