International intern programme
What is the purpose of the intern programme?
The European Region WAGGGS intern programme supports the
development of Guiding and Girl Scouting in Europe. Based in
Brussels, it gives our young members an opportunity to gain
experience of working in an international secretariat.
What do interns do?
You will be given a particular responsibility based on the needs
of the European Office at the time of your placement. Tasks will be
connected to the Strategic Plan of the Region.
The European staff team ensures that the Strategic Plan of the
European Region is carried out efficiently and that Associations
are supported in their development. They also work closely
with the European Scout Region.
How long do internships last?
Internships can last up to six months.
Who can apply?
Interns should be:
- aged between 18 and 25
- have completed general education
- be resident in a European Country as defined by the Council of
Europe, subject to residency permits
- willing to live in Brussels for six months
- fluent in English and/or French
- computer literate
- creative thinkers
- able to work on their own initiative
- team players
- experienced in Guiding, Girl Scouting or Scouting

- willing to contribute to the development of WAGGGS in
Europe.
Is funding available?
You can apply to European Region WAGGGS for financial
support under the European Voluntary Service Programme. However,
it's not guaranteed that funds will be available. Please be
aware that you may have to support yourself financially during the
internship.
How are interns selected?
Selection will be based on:
- motivation
- scope for personal development
- scope for development within guiding and girl scouting
- references from inside and outside Guiding or
Scouting.
Particular skills or interests may be required for a special
project. This will be advertised in advance.
What about insurance?
Interns must arrange their own medical insurance.
And visas?
If you are invited to join the intern programme, you will need
to check with your local Belgian embassy or consulate about a
visa.
