Vision 20:10  20/10  2010

Over half a million girls and women celebrated the end of Girlguiding UK's Centenary on 20 October 2010 at 8:10pm by sharing a vision for the next 100 years of guiding.
The aim of Vision was to bring all members of Girlguiding UK together to share one moment in time - a time for reflection on guiding’s heritage and the fun of the Centenary year, as well as a time to explore our hopes and dreams for the future.
Members partied across the UK with thousands tuning in to a special countdown and broadcast at 20:10  20/10  2010 led by the Chief Guide, Liz Burnley. Here’s just a taste of the action:

Llanelli’s Parc Y Scarlets, Headingley Cricket Ground and Walsall Football Club’s Bank Stadium were just three of the sporting stadiums that hosted large-scale Vision Events

  • 6,500 members took over Trafalgar Square for a musical extravaganza
  • Brazilian Samba Rhythms sounded out at the Ulster Vision Event in Belfast
  • Former X Factor finalists wowed the crowds in Aberdeen
  • Thousands of members joined a colourful lantern-lit parade in Lancashire South East

Chief Guide, Liz Burnley, celebrated Vision with the delegates at the Young Women’s World Forum in Oxfordshire.

‘Vision gave our members across the UK the chance to reflect on what we have achieved, and ask ourselves – what next?’ says Liz, who also expressed her own vision for the future.

‘At the start of our second century, my personal vision is for adults and parents who have ever been involved in guiding, and those who would like to try, to consider joining the thousands of amazing volunteers. They are the ones who help make guiding happen for today's generation of girls and young women.’
