Ultimate Adventures in the UK
Climbing a Munro and voyaging the British Isles on a Tall Ship,
the Senior Section had plenty of adrenaline- and fun-filled
adventure options right here in the UK.

ICANDO
ICANDO held three Ultimate Adventures:
Sightseeing, Entrepreneurs and Thrills.
The Ultimate Sightseeing Senior Section members were encouraged to
make their own Ultimate Adventure, using ICANDO as a base. The
girls went ice-skating, sight seeing and tried out some of London’s
restaurants.

Waddow
Waddow Fever was held on a snow-filled
weekend in January 2010. Over 200 Guides and Senior Section
members took up the challenge of camping in the three inches of
snow as well as activities including archery, trampolining, low
ropes and a lot of sledging.
Ultimate Munro Challenge
This was an opportunity to experience a real
‘mountain-top moment’ with 100 members by climbing a Munro (a
Scottish peak of 3,000ft or over).
Ultimate Isle of Man Challenge
The Isle of Man has a fantastic coastal path
which is 100 miles in length and a group of Senior Section members
challenged themselves to celebrate the Centenary by walking the 100
miles for Girlguiding UK. The route was completed in eight days and
some girls had been sponsored to complete the challenge
Ultimate Tall Ship Adventure
In partnership with the Jubilee Sailing Trust,
Girlguiding UK offered ten voyages around the British Isles on the
Jubilee Sailing Trust’s STS Lord Nelson. Although the participants
needed no previous sailing experience, they were soon steering the
65-metre ship and furling and unfurling 1200 metres of sail.
Cairngorm Mountain Adventure – Glenmore Lodge
Girls took part in winter mountaineering
activities including crampon and ice axe techniques with the
opportunity to progress to gullies and rope work.
Ultimate Edinburgh
Nearly 200 Senior Section Members spent the
weekend in Edinburgh sightseeing, shopping and taking part in a
list of special challenges. In the evening the girls attended a
glamorous ball held in ‘The Hub’. The girls all wore ball gowns and
were served fruit mock tails and dinner in the stunning main hall.
They danced the night away, being taught to dance the traditional
Scottish way by Ceilidh band ‘Kilter’.
Ultimate London
100 young
women took part in this adventure which involved lots of
sightseeing! The afternoon was spent in the West End seeing Wicked
or Billy Elliot. They visited the Globe Theatre, Tower of London,
Tate and the Centenary Maze. The girls also took part in the
Girlguiding UK World Thinking Day Service at Westminster Abbey and
rounded off the weekend with a flight on the London Eye.
