Thousands of members across the UK had fun taking part in
Adventure 100, our Centenary Challenge for all sections.
With themes ranging from ‘Wet and Wild’ to ‘In
the Dark’, challenges included making ice sculptures, cooking a
meal for 100 people, climbing a tower and having a sleepover
in an unusual place. It was a true guiding adventure.
Two of the challenges had an interactive element. Members
could upload a photograph or drawing to photo sharing website
Flickr or create a post on the Centenary forum
to communicate with guiding friends around the world.
The first of the Flickr groups, Shape 100, shows
guiding units making interesting 100 shapes using anything from
coins, ribbons, badges, to their own bodies.
Girlguiding UK in
2015 challenged members to design uniforms, badges and
programmes for 2015 and beyond.
Over 342,000 Adventure 100 badges have been sold with members
across the UK rising to the challenge. The 10th Redhill
Guides and their Leaders travelled to Portland in
Dorset for a weekend residential in The Old Lower
Lighthouse as part of their Adventure 100. The group enjoyed
singing songs in the lighthouse, even though the fog horn was
sounding all night. The group also visited the Portland Bird
Observatory where the Portland Rangers introduced them to species
of insects including moths, as well as some local bird
life.
