Ice Lolly
by Jean Ure
When Lol's mum dies she and Mr Pooter, her beloved cat, go to live with her uncle and aunt. Things aren't very easy for Lol. She misses her mum, her Auntie Ellen and cousin Holly don't make her feel very welcome, and Auntie Ellen doesn't like cats. With all that going on Lol thinks it would be easier if she could stop feeling. She wants to freeze, just like an ice lolly.
This is a really easy book to read. Although Lol has quite an unusual life, there are things in the book that almost every girl can understand like the part when Lol gets teased at a new school.
Even though the book is quite sad it's also uplifting too. It's very clever the way Jean Ure has written the book so that the reader understands Lol more than she understands herself.
